Exploring the Toyota Urban Cruiser 2024: A New Era for Subcompact SUVs in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, in collaboration with Suzuki, is gearing up to launch an all-new subcompact crossover SUV in the Indian market, expected to be named the Urban Cruiser 2024. This SUV marks Toyota’s return to the compact SUV segment post the discontinuation of the Urban Cruiser. Toyato Urban Cruiser 2024 is essentially a rebranded version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, adding to the existing lineup of joint ventures between Toyota and Suzuki, including the Baleno, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, and Glanza.

Scheduled for release in April 2024, the Toyota Urban Cruiser 2024 is anticipated to be competitively priced between 7 to 15 lakhs INR, positioning it as a direct competitor to popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite. It is expected to be available in four variants: E, S, G, and V.

Under the hood, the Urban Cruiser 2024 will feature the same petrol engine options as the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, including a 998cc 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder Booster jet petrol engine coupled with Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid System, generating 100 horsepower and 148 Nm of torque. Additionally, a naturally aspirated 1.2L K-series Dual jet petrol engine with Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid System producing 90 horsepower and 139 Nm of torque will also be on offer. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT, or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, with an expected mileage ranging between 20 to 23 kmpl. Toyota may also introduce CNG variants based on the 1.2L petrol engine.

In terms of design, the Urban Cruiser 2024 will showcase a sporty and rugged exterior, drawing inspiration from the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. It will feature LED projector headlights, an updated front grille with chrome inserts and Toyota badging, sleek black air intakes, body- coloured door handles, roof rails, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and LED tail lights with a horizontal LED bar.

Moving inside, the Urban Cruiser 2024 is expected to offer a premium cabin with high-quality materials and a host of features, including a new dual-tone dashboard layout, a 9-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering-mounted controls, a semi-digital instrument cluster, push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, ventilated seats, rear entertainment system, and a comprehensive suite of safety features such as ABS with EBD, adaptive cruise control, six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree surround-view camera.

Overall, the Toyota Urban Cruiser 2024 is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian automotive market, combining Toyota’s reliability with Suzuki’s expertise in compact car engineering and design. With its anticipated features, performance, and competitive pricing, the Urban Cruiser 2024 is set to redefine the subcompact crossover segment.
