Bajaj Auto has expanded its popular 400-cc lineup in India with the introduction of the Triumph Speed T4, priced at ₹ 2.17 lakh (ex-showroom). Building on the success of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, the Speed T4 is now the most affordable Triumph bike available in India. Since their debut last year, over 60,000 units of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X have been sold across 50 countries, including India.
Engine and Performance
The Speed T4 is powered by a 398-cc engine, which is tuned differently from the Speed 400. It produces 31 PS of power and 36 Nm of torque, which is slightly lower than the Speed 400 by 10 PS and 1.5 Nm. Despite this, Triumph claims that the engine provides a unique riding experience, with stronger low-end torque and a deeper exhaust note. The Speed T4 delivers peak torque between 3,500 and 5,500 rpm, allowing for smoother low- to mid-speed rides with fewer gear shifts. This has been made possible by increasing the engine inertia by 30% compared to the Speed 400, resulting in improved low-rpm stability.
Design and Features
In terms of hardware, the Triumph Speed T4 comes equipped with a manual throttle body control, slipper clutch, 43 mm telescopic front fork, dual-channel ABS, and a semi-digital console featuring a USB port. The bike will be available in three eye-catching colors: Pearl Metallic White, Cocktail Wine Red, and Phantom Black. These features combine to offer an impressive package for those looking for a stylish, reliable, and affordable modern-classic bike.
Competitors and Market Position
With its competitive pricing and unique features, the Speed T4 is set to rival other popular models in the 400-cc segment, including the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Honda CB350. The Triumph Speed T4 offers a mix of modern design and classic charm, making it an attractive option for riders who want a blend of performance and comfort.
Speed 400 Update
In addition to the launch of the Speed T4, Triumph has also introduced the Model Year 2025 (MY25) version of the Speed 400. The updated model now comes with new tires, adjustable levers, and fresh paint schemes, offering more customization options for riders. The Speed 400 MY25 is priced at ₹ 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
Triumph’s Growing Presence in India
Speaking about the launch, Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, said, “With the launch of the Speed T4 and MY25 Speed 400, we are expanding Triumph’s range in India, blending heritage with innovation. Our partnership with Triumph has been a great success, delivering nearly 60,000 bikes across 50 countries, including India.”
The Triumph and Bajaj alliance continues to strengthen its position in the Indian market, offering riders a range of options from relaxed cruisers to performance-oriented motorcycles, all while maintaining an affordable price point in the superbike category.
