Next-Generation Honda Amaze: A Complete Redesign for 2024

The next-generation Honda Amaze is gearing up for a major transformation as it prepares for its debut by the end of 2024. This upcoming model promises to deliver a fresh redesign, aiming to enhance its appeal in the competitive compact sedan segment. Here’s an in-depth look at what we can expect from the new Amaze.

Platform and Dimensions

The new Honda Amaze will be built on a modified version of the platform currently used for the Honda City and Elevate SUV. This new platform will enable Honda to streamline its production processes by consolidating its product lineup in India onto a single base. The updated Amaze will feature a shorter wheelbase compared to the City’s 2,600mm and the Elevate’s 2,650mm, helping it maintain its compact dimensions and keep the overall length under four meters. The new Amaze will have a wheelbase that is 130mm shorter than the current model’s 2,470mm, reflecting Honda’s strategy to optimize both cost and production efficiency.

Design and Aesthetics

While the exact details of the new Amaze’s design are yet to be fully revealed, it is expected to retain the stylish design elements that have characterized Honda’s sedans. The third-generation Amaze is likely to draw inspiration from larger Honda sedans available in global markets. This design approach continues the trend set by the second-generation Amaze, which was inspired by the Honda Accord. The third-generation Amaze will continue to use the 1.2-liter, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that powers the current model. This engine produces 90 horsepower and 110Nm of torque and will be available with a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic. With Honda having phased out diesel engines in India, the new Amaze will be offered exclusively with this petrol engine.

Market Challenges

The Amaze will enter a challenging market where compact SUVs and sporty hatchbacks are increasingly popular, overshadowing traditional sedans. The compact sedan segment, which sees sales of approximately 23,000 to 24,000 units per month, is predominantly controlled by Maruti Suzuki, which commands nearly 60 percent of the market share. Hyundai, Tata, and Honda cover the remainder of the market, with a significant portion of sub-4-meter sedans being sold in the taxi segment.

Given the slowdown in sedan sales, Honda Cars India has revised its production forecast for the new Amaze. The initial projection of producing 56,000 units annually has been reduced to 40,000 units. Despite this adjustment, the Amaze remains a key model for Honda in India, accounting for about 25 percent of the company’s total sales.

Competition

The new Amaze will face stiff competition from rivals such as the Hyundai Aura and the Maruti Dzire. Both of these models are expected to receive major updates or new generations shortly before the Amaze’s launch, which could add to the competitive pressure in the compact sedan market.
