Since its debut in May 2005, the Swift has spanned four generations and has become a beloved choice among Indian car buyers for its stylish design, lively performance, affordability, and reliable handling.

Swift’s Global Success

Globally, the Maruti Suzuki Swift has surpassed 6.5 million sales, with India emerging as its largest market. This achievement underscores the hatchback’s enduring popularity and strong consumer appeal across diverse markets.

Commemorating the Occasion

Reflecting on this achievement, Mr. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, expressed gratitude, stating, “The Swift has transcended its role as a mere car to become a symbol of enjoyment, freedom, and exhilaration for millions of owners. Each new generation of the Swift has raised standards by offering advanced technology, contemporary style, and the unmistakable ‘Swift DNA’ that continues to captivate our customers. We are immensely thankful to all Swift owners nationwide for their trust and support.”

Evolution Through Generations

First Generation: 2005 Launch
The Swift was initially launched inspired by Suzuki’s iconic Hayabusa motorcycle, setting new benchmarks with features like climate control, airbags, and ABS. It introduced a spirited G13 1.3L 4-cylinder engine and later added a Fiat-sourced 1.3L diesel variant, propelling its sales to new heights.

Second Generation: 2010 Update
Five years later, the second-generation Swift arrived in India with evolutionary design updates and enhanced interior space. It introduced the K12 1.2L 4-cylinder NA petrol engine alongside the 1.3L diesel option, offering a 5-speed manual transmission.

Third Generation: 2018 Refresh
In 2018, the third-generation Swift debuted with evolutionary styling and adopted the lightweight Heartect platform for improved agility. It continued with existing engine choices and introduced AMT options for both petrol and diesel variants. A mid-cycle update boosted the petrol engine’s power output to 90 Hp.

Fourth Generation: Present Day
Today, the fourth-generation Swift continues to attract customers with its sporty design, agile handling, value-for-money proposition, and a new Z-series 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 82 PS and 112 Nm torque. It offers a choice between a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox, along with advanced safety features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill-hold assist, among others. The Swift is currently priced from ₹6.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Conclusion

The Maruti Suzuki Swift’s journey in India is a testament to its evolution and enduring popularity among car enthusiasts. As it continues to innovate and adapt to market demands, the Swift remains a cornerstone of Maruti Suzuki’s success story in the Indian automotive landscape.
