BMW F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure Launch in India: Bookings Open for New Middleweight ADVs

BMW Motorrad India has officially announced the launch of the BMW F 900 GS and BMW F 900 GS Adventure in India, with bookings now open across the country. Following the recent introduction of the BMW R 1300 GS, these new middleweight adventure bikes are set to hit the Indian market soon. The exact pricing will be revealed shortly, but the new models will replace the older F 850 GS and F 850 GS Adventure.

BMW F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure: Key Features and Specifications

Both the F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure come equipped with a new 895 cc parallel-twin engine. This engine produces 105 hp at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 93 Nm at 6,750 rpm. The power output has increased by 10 hp, and the torque has grown by 1 Nm compared to the previous F 850 GS models. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a bi-directional quick-shifter for smooth gear transitions.

Fuel Tanks and Dimensions

The F 900 GS features a 14.5-litre fuel tank, while the F 900 GS Adventure boasts a larger 23-litre tank. The Adventure model is designed for longer journeys, featuring bigger bodywork and road-biased tyres. It weighs 246 kg, making it heavier than the F 900 GS, which is 27 kg lighter and slimmer, weighing 219 kg.

Suspension and Brakes

Both models are equipped with 43 mm Showa USD forks with 230 mm of travel and a rear monoshock with 215 mm of travel. The F 900 GS offers a fully adjustable USD fork and monoshock, ideal for off-road use. In contrast, the F 900 GS Adventure features electronically adjustable suspension, catering to long-distance touring. Braking is handled by 305 mm discs at the front and a single 265 mm disc at the rear.

Advanced Features and Design

The F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure come with an array of advanced features, including ABS, cornering ABS, traction control, multiple riding modes, and a 6.5-inch TFT display. A notable design feature is that the F 900 GS borrows its headlight design from the BMW G 310 R, a unique touch in the segment.

Pricing and Competition

The current F 850 GS and F 850 GSA models are priced at ₹12.95 lakh and ₹13.75 lakh, respectively. The new F 900 GS range is expected to start at around ₹13.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The F 900 GS will compete with rivals such as the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally, Honda XL750 Transalp, and Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE, positioning itself strongly in the competitive adventure motorcycle market.
