Land Rover Defender Lineup Simplified: What’s New

Land Rover has recently made notable changes to the Defender’s lineup, streamlining its engine and trim options to better cater to customer preferences.

Current Engine Options

The Defender’s engine choices have been reduced significantly:

2.0-litre Petrol Engine: This engine is now offered exclusively in the 110 body style and only in the X-Dynamic HSE trim. It’s the only petrol option left in the lineup.

3.0-litre Diesel Engine: This option is available across all three body styles—90, 110, and 130—and comes in three trims: X-Dynamic HSE, X, and Sedona Edition.

Impact on Pricing

With these changes, there are some noteworthy impacts on pricing:

Base Price Increase: The removal of the 2.0-litre petrol engine from the 90 body style has led to a rise in the base price of the Defender.

Top-End Price Decrease: The departure of the 5.0-litre V8 engine has reduced the maximum price of the Defender. However, it’s important to note that the recently introduced Defender Octa V8 remains available but is limited in allocation, specifically for India.

Production and Availability

The Defender continues to be imported, unlike the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, which have recently been localized. Land Rover has also started deliveries of the locally assembled Range Rover Sport today.
